From the Front Door to the Final Bow: What to expect at your child’s first class with Dance 24 Seven
Walking into a dance studio for the first time is a big milestone! At Dance 24 Seven, we’ve spent over a decade refining our "First Day" experience to ensure it is welcoming, safe, and most importantly, fun.
If you’ve booked a Free Trial, here is exactly how the day will unfold and how we help your child transition from their very first steps to becoming a confident member of our dance family.
The Welcome:
Your journey starts at our front desk. Our team will be there to greet you and check you in. If you have pre-booked your trial online, we will have a sticker at the front desk with your name ready and waiting.
If it is your very first trial, you can wear comfortable activewear - something that makes you feel confident. We know that nothing makes a dancer feel like a "real dancer" quite like the uniform. Our staff are experts at finding the perfect fit; we can help you size up the correct gear in our very own uniform shop so you’re ready to hit the ground running when you officially join.
The Trial Experience:
For the Free Trial lesson, we invite parents to stay and watch. This gives you a chance to see our purpose-built West Auckland studios in action and witness our teaching style firsthand.
The Class Flow: Our lessons are structured to build both skill and stamina. We start with a focused warm-up and then move into technical work. In term one and two, this looks like preparing our dancers for mid-year exams. In the final five minutes of class, the teacher will invite all parents into the studio. The dancers will perform a short sequence of what they learned that day. It’s a wonderful moment for family and friends to see their progress and for them to enjoy their first round of applause!
Our "Closed Door" Policy: Why we don’t have parents in the room
After the initial trial, Dance 24 Seven operates a closed-class policy for all subsequent lessons. While it might be tempting to want to sit in in every week, we have found this policy is vital for a student’s growth for two key reasons:
Uninterrupted Focus: Without the distraction of an audience in the room, students can give 100% of their attention to their teacher and their peers. This focus is especially important as we work toward our mid-year exams.
Freedom from Judgement: Dance is about trial and error. Our studio is a brave space where students feel completely uninhibited. When it’s just the teacher and the students, dancers feel free to try their best, make mistakes, and find their rhythm without the fear of being "watched" or judged before they are ready.
This policy allows your child to build true independence and confidence, which makes the moments when you do see them perform in those last five minutes all the more special.
Ready to Get Started?
To make the first day a success, please ensure your dancer has a labeled water bottle and plenty of energy! After the class, our team at the front desk will be available to discuss the timetable and help you finalise your enrolment.
